17th Edition Wiring Regulations

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

At Allied Electrical, all of our engineers are trained to the latest 17th edition wiring regulations and we make sure that all of our installations and services conform to these regulations. We are always at the forefront of new developments in regulations to ensure that all of our work can be completed to a high standard.

The 17th edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations, BS 7671:2008 are the national standard to which all domestic and industrial wiring must conform. It was published in January 2008 and all electrical installations designed after the 30th June 2008 must comply with these standards.

These regulations apply to the design, erection and verification of electrical installations, also additions and alterations to existing installations. Existing installations that have been installed in accordance with earlier editions of the Regulations may not comply with this edition in every respect.

There are many important changes to the structure and technical content of the latest wiring regulations book, the most significant are summarised below:

• A socket outlet can now be installed in bathrooms subject to being 3m from the edge of a shower or bath and it must be protected by a residual current device (RCD).

• Re-numbering and re-structuring of chapters to align with international standards.

• ‘Special Locations’ such as fairgrounds and amusement parks, marinas, exhibitions and floor and heating systems are now covered in the 17th edition.

I am very happy with the service provided and would be happy to reccommend Allied Electrical to anyone.
