Why is my fuse board buzzing? Allied Electrical Services, Bristol

Buzzing sounds coming from your fuse board? That can’t be a good sign!
If you’re based in Bristol and need to get to the bottom of the mysterious buzzing sound emanating from your fuse box, Allied Electrical Services are your local, trustworthy electricians to get in touch with.

Why is my fuse board buzzing?

If you find your fuse board is making a buzzing sound or making any other unusual sounds, you need to call a qualified electrician such as Allied Electrical Services immediately. Whatever you do, do not attempt to repair your fuse box yourself as this can be extremely hazardous.

Allied Electrical Services are experienced electricians with many years of experience in the trade. We can diagnose any problems with your fuse box once we’ve come out to investigate, in the meantime, there are a number of reasons your fuse box could be buzzing, we’ve included two main causes for you in our guide:

  1. Partial discharge - Partial discharge is when there is a partial breakdown in the insulating material which acts as a barrier, separating two active conductors. A major problem with partial discharge is that energy released from the discharge process can actually cause further breakdown within the fuse box and insulation over time. This can increase the risk of fire hazards as well as electrocution.
  2. Loose connections - Any loose connections within an electrical circuit, even on a miniscule scale, can cause the electrical system to “arc” which in turn leads to a buzzing or humming noise. It's actually the arc of electricity between circuit breaker contacts and the bus bar within the fuse box.

This could also explain why some of your household appliances suddenly stopped working.

How do Allied Electrical Services help fix the fuse board buzzing?

As Allied Electrical Services are accredited electricians in Bristol with an in-depth understanding of safety regulations set by the industry, we are able to successfully and safely investigate the buzzing sound coming from your fuse box.

Once we've turned off the power at the mains, we use caution and experience when handling the fuse box, it could be hazardous to the touch and could still pose a risk of electrocution. We cannot stress how important it is to avoid touching your fuse box especially if it is malfunctioning or making a buzzing sound.

Next, we check any screws within the box and tighten any which are loose. We try to identify the fuse or wiring which might be causing the buzzing sound.

In some cases, we replace any fuses which have been completely damaged due to excessive heat.

Is your fuse box buzzing? You should get in touch with Allied Electrical Services

The buzzing sound coming from your fuse box could be a normal part of the electrical circuits at your property operating as normal. However, it's crucial that the buzzing sound is investigated and checked by a qualified NICEIC or Part P approved contractor. Luckily for you, Allied Electrical Services in Bristol are proud holders of both qualifications.

We are honest and trustworthy electricians who have built a name for ourselves amongst customers in Bristol and surrounding areas. In fact, the feedback and reviews left by our clients are a testament to the high level of workmanship and customer service we provide for our customers.

Don’t delay, if your fuse box is buzzing, get in touch with us so we can investigate as soon as possible.
